need some good vibes

Most of Bug's friends have come down with the flu this week and last. So far we have been lucky. But today, today when we got home Bug requested we go straight to my bed, snuggle and watch TV. I hope it is just her wanting to take care of me. We have a big weekend planned and I don't want her to have to miss it.

Tonight we focus on resting, hydrating, vitamin C, and a good dinner. I hope it helps. The good news is that her mood is wonderful. Currently she is putting smiley faces all over me.

things happen as they do

The feeling of sickness has left me. And, unfortunately, went to BestFriend - so so sorry. Though I still have a sinus infection looming. Monday I was home sick. Sure enough, to top it all off, our AC broke. Do you know what having an air conditioner break in triple degree heat means?
  • waiting until Friday for a replacement
  • being grateful for not spending the incentive check yet
  • discovering cool bubble baths are a fun to cool off with Bug
  • being thankful for our advancements in potty training in the last week and a half so Bug can run around as she please and not overheat/or case a mess
  • being comfortable sleeping naked - normally I love covers and PJs
  • realizing that while 91 degrees inside sucks, it isn't so bad
  • being grateful for Sweetie installing fans all over the house
  • being surprised to discover how cool the kitchen floor stays ;-)
And, of course, me being me, I am highly considering a slight alteration to my plan. That is why my plans live in excel, so I can change them. I have been doing a lot of thinking, researching, and networking. I want to do what is best for my career right now. And to be honest, I have never been one to follow the beaten path. So it looks like the CPA is going to be put on hold for the time being. Not given up on by any means. I found something that I think will help me more at this point in time - more on that as it progresses. The good news is that I already started the first step.

And I am a horrible mother. I have not uploaded my photos from the party. They are coming, I promise. Things are just busy, hot and busy.

Now that I am feeling better though - because I am not letting this sinus issue get me down - I am getting back into getting healthy, organizing, and moving forward with goals.

I also go and get my blood tested tomorrow - cross fingers for normal.

where I start to lose my mind

Home again for the 4th day. Bug is finally starting to do better, FINALLY. Yesterday her fever was back to 102. But I think the antibiotics are finally kicking in as she is being her silly self this morning. That brings much relief. Working from home, going in late at night and before the sun is up, just plain sucks. I feel like I am a world away from my peeps. Luckily I have a great boss. I have to keep reminding myself that he is not asshole boss. I am going in this weekend to get ahead. Bug and I tried to make a trek to work a few minutes ago. She was all ready and wanting to get out of the house. Of course, she fell asleep on the way. I came back home and she woke up. Grrr. I think we will try again in a little bit. She is dying to get out of the house and she is no longer contagious.

I have been worried about Bug, not sleeping well, trying to keep myself healthy, and trying to make sure that I keep up at work. Not fun. I woke this morning annoyed at the world. I check the calendar and there isn't a reason for me to be bitchy, at least not that kind. I keep dreaming about an ex-friend who treated me very badly. This frustrates me. I know how I have changed since her. In my dreams I am the way I used to be. Maybe that is to point out how much I have changed, I don't know. But she keeps getting in my head. And then I get a message on m*y*S*p*ace about this ex-friend. No, I do not know what she is up to now. Just like the creditors who call for her, I don't know. It has been so long since I even talked to her. Everything is different.

Tomorrow is Brother's b-day. Tonight is the family celebration - need to clean. Tomorrow is the fun adult outing. This sounds like fun. I just hope Bug is up for it.

And I am bitchy. I am not even fully enjoying it being Friday because it doesn't feel like it to me. I have not been working out this week. I need to make sure that I get a 4 mile walk in this weekend.

But my Bug is being so good. And she is starting to act like herself again. She is a silly silly little girl. I think along with some good napping, cleaning, and pampering, we need to make sure to get out of the house. And as I write this she just came up to me and "got me" and we had to dance. That was a nice little reminder.

And because I hate being negative on my blog - here are some pictures to thank you for your time.

sick

So much to post. Friday night we went and watched DarkDiva belly dance, simply beautiful. Saturday started early with the 6k, brunch, and a much enjoyed 3 hour nap. That evening Sweetie and I planned to enjoy a date night. Bug still has not forgiven us for leaving. She would not let us go for our date. Before we even got to the point of saying good bye she went to Sweetie and said "no leave me daddy". The evening was still fun. It just proves that a plan B is always good. Sunday was the normal errands and getting ready for the week.

Bug has been fighting getting sick. All last week we watched her, her teacher watched her. We expected her to get sick by like Wednesday. Over the weekend she seemed to be doing better but not 100%. The thing is that she was not sick sick, no fever, no real bad cough - she gets an allergy cough, and her energy was high. This morning when we dropped her off she was good. She waved to us from the play ground and seemed happy.

Come 2:30 and I get a call from her teacher. She didn't have a fever but she wasn't feeling well. She was screaming if anyone looked at her, she didn't eat, and she woke from her nap unhappy. When I picked her up she was crying. As soon as she got in my arms she put her head down to sleep. She didn't feel like she had a bad fever, but it is hard to tell with her. Sure enough when I got home she was at 101.3. She has not been over 99 all last week. She got some meds in her and is now sleeping. And all week I have taken my temp along with her, to show her "mommy does it too". Mine all last week was 98. Yep, I am close to 100 now. Grrrr.

Needless to say, Sweetie says no working out tonight for me. Now I must make sure I get better so I can get Bug better. I think I am going to have to work from home tomorrow.

well crap

Yesterday I had the WORST headache, it lasted all day. I took my normal meds, took a long nap, ate chocolate and bad food - normally works. Nope headache still continued.

Today I woke with a fever and the same headache. Blah. I have been drinking my water and hoping it was simply dehydration. However, when I got dressed I noticed that I have a rash on my legs. Not horrible but there nevertheless.

I can't like rashes so when I got home from the grocery store I went onto my trusty webmb.com and the symptom checker. One question asked if I was taking antibiotics. Yes. The details specifically said that sulfa drugs can cause this. Flash back to the Dr's office on Thursday, NP asked "can you take sulfa drugs". I said yes, not thinking twice about it.

I looked up the side effects for this drug:
1) Headache - check
2) dizziness - check
3) rash - check

Great. Just when I started to feel better I find out that my meds are not good for me. Guess I will be on the phone first thing in the morning for a new prescription.

I am off to try and get rid of this headache, take a bath for the rash, and get ready for next week.

feeling better

My sinus infection was bad enough for the dr to prescribe a double dose of antibiotics. I woke this morning feeling so much better. Still a little tired, but I woke contemplating going walking - don't worry I was smart and decided not just yet. Perhaps tomorrow, today is about resting and finishing getting rid of this infection.

Yesterday was Jim's b-day. He came over and we celebrated him. I hope I wasn't too much of a party pooper, I was just tired.

I have felt so bad with this infection that I have not fully celebrated my great thyroid news. I have not even told everyone. I think with feeling badly, it just hasn't seemed real.

Dear Ex High School Best Friend,
We have not spoken in over 4.5 years. I just want you to know that I find much solace in the fact that your bill collectors are calling my house DAILY to try and find you. However, please pay your bills as it is damn annoying to hear your name on my answering machine over and over. Isn't karma is a bitch?

Thank you

uhm.....ok

First things first, I have a HORRIBLE sinus infection. I have Dr's orders to go home and go to bed until Monday. Am I following them? No, I went back to work. But I did leave early and came home and slept for four hours.

Now onto the important news. I gave my blood yesterday like a good girl. And I got the call this morning about my results. I was all prepared to call and schedule my uptake scan as my final step before the RAI.

There has been a change of plans.

No RAI for me this month. You see my thyroid is normal. It is normal for the old standards, the new standards, and even the brand new standards that Drs in CA are following. Without meds for four weeks and it is normal. They are not saying remission yet. I go back at the end of November and test again. I had to have the nurse repeat herself and I just started laughing.

So what I thought were symptoms have been my brain (nice huh?) and my horrible sinus infection.

I cannot believe it, as of right now I am healthy. HEALTHY. I have not had a normal thyroid since the beginning of 2001. I don't even know what to think, how to act. And this sinus infection has totally stolen the thunder of this wonderful news. GRRRRRR!

So I have no excuses in regard to losing weight or studying for the CPA (though I will be watching my stress levels very closely as that is a cause of thyroid changes). And the best part? I get to continue to take my vitamin and calcium first thing in the morning. You cannot take vitamins and your thyroid medication at the same time. This meant I forgot my vitamins most days.

So not saying remission yet. But I am damn motivated to be healthy and do everything in my power to continue on this no medication route.

gosh darnit

I am blogging from home. Sure enough Bug's fever returned. Yep after two days without, it decided it missed us. I got the call not long after getting to work. I had enough time to do a little work, make a doctor appointment for her, and go and get her. The good news is that she is not very sick. No antibiotics, yay. Just wait, watch, and hope she is better soon. If she has a fever on Thursday she has to go back. I hope that isn't the case. Now we watch Winnie-the-Pooh and try to get better. I have a pile of work next to me to do. If I can do it, I won't have to use PTO. But it is hard to work from home with a two year old.

8 days down/82 to go

SPF

SPF: Your letters.

That is what I am focusing on right now - be happy. I still feel sick and that is getting to me. Not to mention Sweetie has the flu. Yep, he went to the dr yesterday with a 103.4 fever and walked out with three prescriptions. I hope he feels better soon. No fun when everyone doesn't feel good. As of this morning his fever is down to 99 but he doesn't have a voice, now I could get used to that. And I know that decongestants make me bitchy but I think they also make me depressed. Blah.

This also means the weekend is very unplanned. We wanted to start on the flooring, but I think that would be too much for Sweetie. All I want is some time with my family, some time with myself, and to accomplish some chores. That would make me very happy.

I have to feel better for next week. I am starting my exercise program to get me in shape for SIL#2's wedding, the LiveStrong Challenge, and ultimately the Turkey Trot. You see I start this CPA process on 4/30/07. This will take 6 months to finish. I want to finish by my b-day - mid November. But not only do I want to finish, I want to finish healthy and stronger than when I started. I can stress easily. Stress leads to sickness. I believe that if I am healthier during the stress I can eliminate (or at least reduce) the sickness.

I also want to start back up on my 365 project. The difference will be that it will not be 365 pictures of me. It will be 365 pictures of my life. The pictures that I take will be things that strike me as interesting or beautiful. I am not sure if I am starting today but it is coming.

I cannot let myself fall into that hole again. So I am trying everything in my power to change things that put me there. I realized I keep ending up in the hole because of walking backwards and I don't see it. I need to turn around and face the future in order to side step another fall.

Sick - be gone with you

Yesterday, I was home sick. I kept Bug home as well to make sure she really was over her crap. Today, I am home sick and she is at school. I went to the doctor like a good girl. I have a very bad sinus infection. But the good news is that he ruled out strep, bronchitis, and meningitis. You don't want to hear the doctor say "you are the sickest person today". Ya thanks. I left with three prescriptions. One for some good antibiotic, one for a decongestant and one for eye drops because for two days my right eye won't stop watering - yep infected. Fun.

I get my prescriptions and dream about my time to sleep uninterrupted. I even considered a bubble bath if time allowed. When I get home I get a call from Sweetie, who is at the last day of SXSW. He says he doesn't feel good. He might take off at noon and come home. Sure enough while I was trying to sleep as my decongestant had not kicked in yet, I hear him come home and get into bed. Note to self, next mattress get one of those where a bowling ball bouncing won't move a glass of wine. I finally get some sleep as my airways opened and I could breathe through one nostril.

I wake up and figure I will move to the living room. As I am leaving I wake Sweetie up and ask how he feels sick. He says his whole body feels achy and hot (yet, he is under the covers) and how the drainage hurts. So I check his temp, 102.x. I get him medicine and one of my decongestants. Good thing the Dr gave me extra.

I was taking care of Bug while she was sick and I was sick (can I get an AMEN for all the single parents out there, I don't know how you do it). I so looked forward to SXSW being over so I could get my knight in shinning armor back. Well, SXSW is over but instead of my knight I have a sick husband and myself to take care of. And I know he is going to be too sick to be of any use tonight.

And did I mention that decongestants make me bitchy?

One FLU Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Well there you have it - the FLU! I got the most dreaded of calls for a working mom around 11. Bug had a fever. Crap! Call doctor, they said to bring her in asap and they would work her in. Crap! Shut down computer, go to boss's office, he wasn't there. Crap! Log back into computer and email boss. Get Bug from school and get her to the doctor. Full waiting room. Crap! After a long wait, see the doctor. Fever of 101.4. Nose culture to test for flu. Positive for Flu. Crap! Guess that flu shot didn't take. Crap! She can't go back to school until Monday. Crap!

So I got to spend the afternoon with my hot potato. After motrin and a three hour nap she is feeling a bit more like herself, though not 100%. And try to explain to a 20 month old that she can't go outside because she is sick even though she feels better. It is not easy.

Tomorrow and Friday Sweetie and I will be doing the 'ol swing shift in taking care of her. It sucks. This is the worst part of being a working mom - a sick child.

I am so very lucky to have Sweetie. He is the best father.

While writing out a prescription for Bug, the Dr also wrote one out for me, just in case. I appreciate that. I will not get this though. I am strong.

And Sweetie made me an icon today for my new external hard drive. He loves me. It is so awesome.

Feeling Better

I am feeling a good bit better. I have to say that my Sweetie is amazing. We both were sick, though he was a few hours ahead of me. He tended to me last night when I was sick, he took Bug to school this morning. He was still feeling crappy but after getting back home and going back to sleep for several hours, he was doing much better. He went to the store and got us soup, Gatorade, raisin bread toast and apples. The funny thing is while I was sick last night I was wanting an apple so badly. It was all I could thing of for hours. I did not mention this at the time. When he brought in the apples I asked why he got them, he said he just thought we needed them. We ate our soup and watched White Christmas. He was feeling much better than me still and picked Bug up from school for me. Currently they are at the Parent and Tot gymnastics class. This gave me a chance to take a long shower. That made me feel much better. He takes the best care of me.

I need to feel better for tomorrow. I need to work some overtime. Nothing crazy, but enough that it can be a nightmare if not feeling well.

Home Sick

Weekend report first. Friday night was relaxed as I was trying to feel better from my cold. Saturday was the tree trimming at Moms. It was a lot of fun. I will post pictures later - I just don't have the patience now. Sunday was my baking party and very successful. Bourbon balls are ripening as we speak.

Unfortunately, Sweetie started feeling crappy during the day. I started feeling crappy that night. I won't go into the wonderful details of the carnival that our bodies have going on inside us. Bug also got sick during the weekend. However, it is not the same thing. Hers is related to drainage - we gave her benedryl and she slept better than she has in a few nights. I hope what Sweetie and I have is food related. Because I don't want anyone that was over yesterday to feel like this. If you get sick. I am SO So SO sorry.

This means I don't get the 22nd off. That is ok. I am in no shape for work. The only reason I am blogging is that Sweetie is dropping Bug off at school. We are in no shape to watch her today. Our time is better spent getting better. So I wait for him - hoping he is doing ok. He does not throw up easy. My brother made the comment that SIL throws up easy and that he doesn't. Sweetie didn't understand the comment until last night when we could compare our experiences. I am lucky enough to throw up easily. But anywho.....

Back to the dropping Bug off, I don't know how you SAHMs do it. If you get sick there is no place to take the babies. Another reason I marvel at the profession.

But alas, my legs are aching and I think I am going to need to move quickly to the bathroom. So I will leave you for now.
